We are passionate about ‘making a difference’… trite and overused, but true nonetheless and here are some facts and figures to show you why….
- Over 13 million children in South Africa live in poverty, they are forced to survive off less than R604 per month
- Over 3.3 million children live in a household where there is child hunger
- South Africa is experiencing the highest HIV/Aids epidemic in the world. As a result South Africa is a country populated with a large number of orphans, with the latest figures estimating the number of orphans in SA to be a staggering 3.6 million
- 87 000 children live in child headed households. A child-headed household is a family in which a minor has become the head of the household often due to the fact that their parents have passed away because of HIV/Aids or they have just upped and left, never to return
To visit these children and to positively influence their lives is a privilege and an honour and an absolute life changing experience. They are warm and open, and within a few minutes of being there you will find a small hand in yours or a little person clambering up onto your lap.
