Eniwe Children’s Fund 1st quarter newsletter 2015

Hello 2015!
The first quarter of this year has gone by so fast! In this short time we have committed ourselves to a number of awesome projects and have already seen some of them through to completion. Woohoo!
Our projects thus far include feeding 100 hungry school children a hot, nutritious meal everyday for an entire year at The Rainbow Centre (an after-school care facility) in Gugulethu – for some of these children this will be their only real meal of the day. We have also financed and installed a paved play area for the Masande Educare Centre in Khayelitsha so these pre-schoolers have a lovely place to play and learn, and just in time for the rainy season! As another initiative, we have organised soccer gear and equipment for a soccer program aimed at getting our vulnerable and at risk street children off the streets and away from the many dangerous influences they’re faced with everyday.
Our other projects are still works-in-progress, but the plans are to work with a home-based (actually, it’s currently run from a single garage!) pre-school educare centre in Delft and take steps to make this centre more like a real daycare for these little ones and also implement some imperative safety and security measures. We are also busy with the preliminary planning to fully kit out a kitchen of an aftercare centre in Khayelitsha to enable them to continue feeding their 150 children everyday – presently they cook and feed these children from a kitchen that is just made up with the bare minimum and it’s a miracle what these selfless volunteers can produce! Hopefully with new equipment, cutlery and crockery everybody will benefit!
Finally, we’ve also committed to providing orphaned and vulnerable children with 4 fun recreational days out. The actual destinations have not yet been finalised, but we are discussing trips to the beach, the fire station and lunch at a restaurant as some of the potential trips! We know that this is not ’strictly speaking’ within our sustainable projects mandate but these fun days out will definitely provide some much needed food for their souls!

Did you know that its estimated that 2.4 million children in South Africa go hungry on a daily basis!

We are super excited to manage the projects we have at hand, and even more excited to see what’s to come for the rest of the year! We’ll keep you updated!
